Mise-en-scene blog post

  Multimedia Mise-en-scene Project

Throughout the process of creating my mise-en-scene project, my group and I had many activity goals to accomplish. Firstly, we had to create a description of our character by writing a short paragraph simply explaining her physical appearance, her life, and her lifestyle. In order for us to create this description, my group and I decided to plan before writing and think about the stereotypes and selection we can add to create this character. We wrote about our character named Angelina who is 28 years old and is short and chubby with curly hair, dark brown eyes, and glasses.

We also added that she has a loving husband, has a dog, lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and likes to go on a nature walk. We also wrote in our description about how she loves to critique popular movies with her friends on her downtime. Secondly, we created a mood board to show pictures and objects that could describe her characteristics. And lastly, we created a visual representation of our character, her characteristics, and her lifestyle. In order for us to create this visual we decided to create a visual interactive game to show how she gets ready and goes on about her life every day.

Once we were finished with our projects, we decided to think of visual objects that we could bring that would give a stereotype to her. We decided to bring a vinyl and CDs since she loved media so much. When we had finished setting up every computer with each part of the project, we decided to place the v vinyl next to the computer with the mood board to give a more realistic view of what she likes as well. Overall, I believe my group worked really hard on constructing this project and did very well on doing so.

Action blog

 The Excitement of Action

The action genre has been a favorite for most media consumers throughout history. Action creates a feeling of excitement and thrill that gets viewers to be intrigued in the film. But who are the typical viewers that enjoy watching it?
Typical target audience of an action genre are young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 years old. Typically young adults enjoy watching an action genre film due to the adrenaline rush they gain while and after watching.
Genre conventions in action films always have a protagonist, stunts, explosions, and high speed chases.
Some production techniques involved in the films include fast pacing, intense music, and usually focuses on creating a sense of adrenaline, which teens and young adults love,
Action genre conventions can be marketed in many ways whether it is highlighting its thrill, encouraging the excitement to viewers,  and including prominent actors.
An example of a film apart of the action genre is Die Hard.
It embodies the genre through its focus on a protagonist, John McClane, who faces a series of escalating challenges that include violence, physical feats, and a ticking-clock scenario.
Another example of a film apart of the action genre was The Matrix. It embody the genre through a fast-paced plot, spectacular stunts, and a focus on a heroic protagonist who must overcome overwhelming physical challenges.

Sound

Learning about sounds has helped me create a more detailed focus on films due to all the different sounds you hear in them. For example, different kinds of sounds you hear in film could be synchronous, asynchronous, diegetic, nondiegetic, sound motif, sound perspective, sound bridge, a voiceover, epistolary voice, music, stings, or sound effects.
After learning all of the different kinds of sounds, we were assigned two projects to complete. The instructions for the first project required us to create a short film with no visuals but only sounds, that is no less than a minute and no longer than a minute and thirty. These certain sounds had to create a visual of the context of the story we planned out on our outline. Not only did we have to look for sounds online, but we had to create Foley sounds that depict real-life scenarios. For example, we had created footsteps in the snow by crushing cornstarch in a cloth.
The second project we were assigned required us to add sound to our previous "One Word" project. We had to create or find realistic sounds to add to our video.
Before creating these two projects, we had to brainstorm for ideas. We used an outline to help organize all of our ideas and sounds for each clip. For example, for our project, our clips were outside in the track, so we decided to add footsteps, wind, birds, and cheering to give the scene a realistic soundscape.
For the editing portion of the project, we first used iMovie to gather all of our clips into the clip. After editing the video, we used Clipchamp to add the sounds, change some of the settings of the sounds, and organize the timing.
The project was a very educational experience. Our project did very well on adding different styles of sounds in each clip and background music. Although we did very well, there were some negatives. Certain sounds were poorly transitioned and sounded choppy. Overall, the project was very fun to complete.
